What Chambers Global Guide 2004 Said About
Us
The Firm: Jonathan Rostron's
decision to set up a small enterprise of his own following
his departure from Sinclair Roche & Temperley has proved
a shrewd move. Operating within the context of a seven-lawyer
office, he has overheads low enough to make him "fiercely
cost competitive" in a tight market. Success has led
to the firm branching out into insolvency and general commercial
litigation; but the emphasis still lies squarely on shipping
matters on both the wet and dry side where the firm advised
a syndicate of Taiwanese banks on the arrest, auction and
sale of four Kien Hung vessels. Admiralty predominates,
however, with the team acting on matters large and small.
These include representing the Chinese salvors after a
fire on the liquefied petroleum gas carrier 'Gaz Poem'
and advising the owners following an explosion on board
the container vessel 'Sea Elegance.'
The Lawyers: Jonathan
Rostron himself is praised as "a
good fighter who is known to most of the London, Scandinavian
and Asian P&I clubs."
The Clients: The team largely acts for P&I clubs, owners
and underwriters. Freight forwarders and terminal operators
are also serviced.
